🌾 Joseph – A Faith That Carries Through
Devotions from the Life of a Dreamer with Character

πŸ‘οΈ 15.Finding Favor in the Eyes of the Lord
When everything is silent – yet something happens

πŸ‘£ Introduction

There are moments in life when we have nothing under control anymore. Strength fades, solutions are missing, and even our best intentions seem to evaporate. There we stand – without answers, without influence, sometimes even without hope.

And it is precisely there that grace begins.

Grace is God’s intervention in situations we cannot change. It is not the result of achievement, but a gift from God’s heart. So it was for Joseph. A foreigner, sold, forgotten – yet right in the middle of this nothingness we read: β€œThe Lord was with Joseph, and he found grace.”
This grace did not come through his wisdom, nor through strategy – but through God’s nearness.

Grace is God’s response to our helplessness.
And sometimes it begins exactly where we have no choice but to let go.

🎯 Devotion

What remains for a person who has lost everything? Joseph stood in Egypt with empty hands – without family, without rights, without reputation. No influence, no security, no future. And yet he possessed something no one could take from him: the presence of God.

When he sat in prison, outwardly he was reduced to the role of a prisoner. But inwardly he was carried by a truth stronger than any wall: God was with him – and therefore Joseph found grace, even in the eyes of a prison warden who had no reason to trust a Hebrew slave.

Grace began in the hidden places. It did not reveal itself through a miracle that burst the doors open, but through an opened door in the heart of one single man. Grace often means that God moves hearts before He moves circumstances.

Joseph experienced a quiet, gentle, yet powerful grace. It protected his heart. It kept him open. It allowed him to continue serving. It would have been easy to become hard, to withdraw, to resign. But God’s nearness kept Joseph from breaking inside.

It is remarkable that Joseph did not seek favor. He did not try to climb upward through flattery or ambition. He simply lived faithfully. And while he was faithful, God allowed the people around him to see his faithfulness.

This is how grace works:
It makes visible what God has formed in secret.

Joseph did not only find a well-disposed warden – he found a door he never could have opened himself. Not yet the door to freedom, but a door to trust, responsibility, and to the next step in God’s plan.

Sometimes we wait for the big doors to open while God is first moving the small ones: an affection, an unexpected kindness, a helping hand, a heart that sees us. These are signs of grace that begin long before the great change arrives.

Grace does not mean immediate deliverance.
Grace means: God is there – and His presence changes our hearts before it changes our situation.

πŸ’‘ Thoughts for your heart

Grace is God’s light in our helplessness.
It begins in the hidden places and becomes visible at the right time.
You do not have to convince people – God can guide hearts.
Grace is not a reward but a gift of God’s nearness.

πŸ’Ž What we can learn from Joseph

A heart that trusts God finds grace where no one expects it.
Grace often begins quietly, but grows strong.
God’s nearness is more valuable than any human door.
Faithfulness clears the way for God to be seen in our lives.

πŸ‘£ Practical steps

Ask God not only for open doors, but for His presence.
Trust that grace is working even when you do not see it yet.
Remain faithful in the small things – that is where God prepares big things.
Keep your expectations open – God’s ways are often surprising.

πŸ’ Questions to reflect on

Where do I need grace today because my strength is not enough?
Where has God already shown me favor – perhaps through unexpected people?
How would I live if I truly believed: β€œGod is with me”?
Which small door might God be opening for me right now?

πŸ™ Prayer

Lord,
I thank You for Your grace – for what I see,
and even more for what I do not see.

I lay before You my helplessness.
My lost opportunities.
My closed doors.

Give me Your presence,
which strengthens my heart,
guides my steps,
and opens doors I could never reach on my own.

Help me remain faithful,
to serve, to hope, to trust –
until Your grace becomes visible.

Amen.

πŸ”‘ Key thought of the day

Grace opens doors that strength could never open.

🌿 Blessing to close

May the God who gave Joseph favor in prison
also give you grace in situations you cannot control.

May He guide hearts on your behalf,
fill you with peace,
and make your path clear –
at the right time, in His way.

Amen.
