Revelation 7:9-10 provides us with a striking insight into the comprehensive geographical dimension of God’s mission. These verses describe a vast assembly of people coming from “every nation, tribe, people, and language” standing before the throne of God, worshiping Him. This illustrates that God’s mission knows no geographical boundaries. It extends across the entire world and encompasses people from all cultures, ethnicities, and languages.
The significance of this passage lies in the fact that it reminds us that God’s love and redemption are intended for all of humanity. His Gospel is not limited to a specific nation or a restricted geographical region. Instead, it calls people from all around the world to repent, believe in Jesus Christ, and follow Him.
The challenge to pray for the city and research the demographics of one’s own local area is a practical step to live out the mission of Jesus in our immediate surroundings. By consciously engaging with the people in our city, we recognize their diversity and needs. Praying for the city and engaging in targeted mission in our local context are important steps to spread the Gospel in our own “Jerusalem” while also being willing to extend the mission to “Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
God’s mission is both global and local. By focusing on both levels of mission, we can contribute to carrying God’s message of love and redemption to all parts of the world while also reaching and transforming people in our own surroundings.
